Machine Gun Kelly
More commonly known as his stage name of Machine Gun Kelly, Colson Baker has always stayed pretty candid with his media appearance. It came as a shock to fans when he posted on his social media accounts this January that he had not been in a very good place recently, especially when all the music he had just put out had been so well received. The making of the music was apparently a big part of both his “downfall” (or what he expected it to be when he titled the album “Tickets to My Downfall”) and his healing.
The artist opened up in an interview this past December about how he used to do more drugs because he believed it “unlocked something in your brain.” The artist said adderall became a big thing for him in the writing process. Baker claims he became so dependent on it that he was snorting it in the studio and leaving if there wasn’t a “medicine man” who could come bring it to him. After changing his perspective on drug dependence and creativity, he is living life with a more positive and happy mentality.
Baker stated that his improvement is still in the works, but it is all due to therapy and the support from his girlfriend Megan Fox and his friend, Blink-182’s drummer, Travis Barker. Fox has played a big part showing him that he can be happy without extra substances while also being there with him on his bad nights. Travis Barker, a former substance abuser himself, has been helping him in his battle with addiction. Therapy on the other hand takes time. He struggles with the same problems that almost every new therapy goer has cited. “Why am I not better already?” or “How do I keep going with this?” plague your mind. Baker has a while to go on his journey with therapy, but he has decided to start with separating himself, “Colson Baker,” from his persona, “Machine Gun Kelly.” The “dichotomy is too intense” for him, and he has found that therapy can be the way to fixing that.
